Monarch Scheduled will become the sixth low-cost operator to offer flights from birmingham airport when it launches flights next summer. The move will create 50 jobs and mean an additional 250,000 passengers will fly from birmingham airport
From the summer Monarch Scheduled will fly from birmingham airport to Malaga and Tenerife. Tim Jeans, managing director of Monarch Scheduled, said: 'Birmingham can look forward to the addition of many more routes in the future, making travel from the region easier and more affordable than ever before.' He added that the service would also compete with no-frills airlines but with a 'superior' service.
Peter Vella from Birmingham Airport said: 'We are thrilled Monarch's low fares scheduled arm has decided to launch its new base from Birmingham next summer.'
The company already operates scheduled services from Luton, Gatwick and Manchester to Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar. Tickets, priced from £39 one-way including taxes and charges, go on sale on Wednesday.
