Charles de Gaulle International

Charles de Gaulle International is the largest airport in France. It is located in Roissy-en-France, 16 miles north-east of Paris. Interestingly, Roissy Airport as it is also known is the second largest airport in Europe after Heathrow International Airport in London. Due to its expansive size, the airport consists of three departments namely; Seine-Saint-Denis, Val d’Oise, and Seine-et-Marne. Charles de Gaulle airport acts as a European hub for Delta Air Lines. The airport which is the principal hub for Air France has two independent runways which are both ideal for super wide-body aircrafts handle 118 aircraft movements hourly. It straddles 3 terminals and 314 parking stands which accommodate an estimated 80 million passengers yearly from all the other major airports in the World such as Amsterdam Schiphol among others.

Airport Facilities

The airport has a vast wealth of important facilities. They include:

  • Internet Access: Passengers can download printed pages, music and videos from the multimedia terminals found in all the terminals. Alternatively, you use the internet cafes located in Terminals 1, 2E, and 3 at an affordable rate.
  • Medical aid: In case you need medical attention the airport has a 24-hour health facility in terminal 2F in addition to well stocked pharmacies located in terminals 1, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E and 2F.
  • Other airport facilities include; Toilets help points, Lost property and business workstations. This powerful combination of facilities is meant to keep you healthy, comfortable and satisfied.

Travel Money and Currency Exchange

Charles De Gaulle International Airport is home to HSBC for over 10 years. The bank has 25 free-to-use ATMs scattered all over the airport. HSBC also has a branch located between terminals 2D and 2F for your convenience.

Passengers can also buy or sell traveler’s cheques/cash, purchase phone cards and even transfer money internationally thanks to Currency Exchange Travelex. The currency exchange company has four offices across terminals 1, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F, and 3. Any amounts that exceed €10,000 must be declared to the French customs at all times. Passengers can take unlimited amounts of money from France.


There are no shortages of both expensive and budget friendly hotels within the CDG environs. Most of these hotels are international brands including Sheraton, Hilton, Pullman and Novotel. Due to its expansive nature, Charles de Gaulle International can be confusing for passengers. It is important to have a map of the airport or if you are familiar with French, follow the signage.
