Hundreds of baggage handlers at Gatwick airport have voted in favour of industrial action and are set to strike on Saturday in a row over workloads and the suspension of a union official.
The dispute involves workers from the Servisair baggage handling company at gatwick airport and centres on two matters: workloads for baggage handlers and maintenance workers; and the alleged 'victimisation' of a union steward.
Members of the Transport and General Workers Union strike at gatwick airport again on 30 September if a suitable agreement is not reached by then.
Servisair said it had contingency plans and was expecting 'minimal disruption'.
In addition to this strike at gatwick airport, there is still a serious threat of a strike at Heathrow this weekend - the planned 48-hour strike is by workers at the refuelling firm AFS.
