Fraport AG has failed to make it to the final phase of the auction for Budapest Airport after submitting the lowest price, according to media reports in Hungary yesterday. However, the government has denied the story.
Press reports suggested that Fraport had offered a price estimated to be 10% below the bid made by UK airport operator BAA. They said BAA's offer was at more than €1.5bn and that BAA is likely to win the bid for Budapest Airport.
However Peter Oravecz, a spokesman for APV, the Hungarian Government's privitisation agency, later denied the report.
Apart from Fraport and BAA, German construction company Hochtief AG had also participated in the auction.
