Driving directions: The airport is located on Governor's Island in Guanabara Bay. It is connected to Rio de Janeiro by two major roads, Linha Vermelha and Avenida Brasil.

Public transport: Bus and taxi are the most hassle-free ways to travel into Rio.

Taxis: ignore the RDE taxi desk, go to the Rio de Janeiro State Tourism Authority desk and buy prepaid taxi vouchers. If you do choose to pick up a taxi, make sure that the meter is cleared to zero before you start your journey.

Bus: There is an airport shuttle bus every hour which stops at major hotels and beaches. Empresa Real run air-conditioned buses along the sea front (stopping at hotels) and into the city (journey time: approximately 45 minutes). They run every half-hour 05:20 - 23:00. Public buses run to the city centre every 30 minutes, 06:00 - 21:00
