Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR) is to close for two months - from 2 February until 2 April 2006 - for planned engineering work.
During the shutdown Air France, Alitalia, Carpatair, Flybaboo, Lufthansa and Meridiana will transfer their flight operations to Pisa Airport, check-in and embarkation services included. Austrian Airlines have expressed the intention to move on a temporary basis to Bologna Airport and Club Air and SN Brussels are still evaluating options.
Florence Airport's general aviation services, handled by Delta Aerotaxi on behalf of AdF, will be operated at Siena Airport. Pisa airport is about 65 miles from Florence of which 50 miles is of motorway standard.
Flight delays are possible during the shutdown as flights are re-routed. Though the scheduled closure is planned for 2 February, officials could postpone the date due to ongoing work at the airport. Passengers should check with individual airlines regarding both departure and arrival times. For more information visit www.aeroporto.firenze.it
